Poker Tips - Thinking too Much of Yourself

poker tips

In the past I have watched a number of very good players, making wild raises while a stubborn opponent calmly calls every action and keeps trudging forward. A lot of times this situation involves a flop like K-K-9. The good player is holding an A-K and feeling very good about their set of kings.

Maniac in the Middle

texas holdem strategy

Today’s Texas Hold’em Strategy is about maniacs. Usually the only thing they are good for is target practice. There are times in a game when they can be worked into your poker strategy and used in kind of the same way that the guys in a mine use a canary.

WSOP Winners – Event #49, #52, and #53

Event #49 ($50,000 World Championship H.O.R.S.E.) cost each of the 95 players fifty grand to play, took five days to complete, and the final table took twenty hours, but it is finally done; it’s in the books. The most important thing that happened in this event was that Gus Hansen was eliminated teasingly close to the final table (he was the bubble boy).

Politics, Poker, and Recessions

US Poker

If you are the sort of person whose brain functions are determined by emotion and ideology, I propose you stop reading at this point and go off to read something that is more in line with your intellectual abilities; I suggest a nice “Where’s Waldo?” book. If you are a person whose thinking is governed by logic and reason keep reading.

Poker Lesson 03: Key Winning Factors

If the only ingredient to winning poker were understanding the hierarchy of cards, the World Series of Poker would include third graders, savants, and the occasional imaginary friend. There is so much more that goes into winning poker then just the cards. The intangible aspects of the game are what separate the amateur from the professional.

Liv Boeree

Liv Boeree

There are a lot of people that many of us have dealt with in life where the term “They aren’t exactly a rocket scientist” aptly applies. This descriptive phrase is most often pointed at the sort of guy who got his physique out of a bottle of steroids, or a women whose best bits are probably made of silicone. Those who find themselves matched up against Livee Boeree at the poker table can stuff those words away and save them for later. Before making the turn to entertainment and poker, Livee was student of physics with astrophysics at the University of Manchester.

How We Got Here

Evolution of Poker

In France the bluffing game of Poque (pronounced “poke”) was fairly popular. Most people would logically conclude that any French game that is pronounced in that particular way would involve folks grabbing their own ankles, but in reality this was an early game that was recognizable as poker.

Lesson before the Flop

One of the great things about the hit NBC poker show National Heads Up Championship is the teaching that goes of for the viewer. Not only can the viewer follow along with the action because of the hole card cameras, but in this format they get a chance to see hand after hand of heads up poker, one of the more important stages of winning a poker game. In this hand, in the 2009.

WSOP Winners – Event #36, #37, and #38

It seems to be almost a common occurrence when only two players are left in a WSOP event. One has a chip stack so big that it would require a team of Sherpas to circumnavigate it, and the other player has barely enough chips to pay for a McDonalds Happy Meal. In these situations the heads-up portion of the tournament is usually a very short affair. This was not the case at Event #36.

Donald Trump and the WWE

Donald Trump and the WWE

Looking at Trump’s body of work, one would not think there was much connection between him and the wrestling industry; and they would be right. If he was going to participate in a pseudo-sport, it would make more sense for him to show up on a show like High Stakes Poker, or Poker After Dark.
